Lana Del Rey // National Anthem

Lana Del Rey (Elizabeth Woolridge Grant) who teams up with A$AP Rocky in her music video for her song National Anthem which came out in early 2012 in her first full length album Born To Die. I loved this song, it was probably my favorite song on this album also, but I must admit, I loved this music video. Not because of the edits or because she is beautiful, but because of the thought and storyline to it. The creativity was so original yet so unique. I loved how Lana Del Rey sang “Happy Birthday Mr.President” in the beginning because it tied the whole video together. Hencing that A$AP was the president, which from a realist teenage girl view is an attractive young president which also ties up the connections that after the black and white video preshow, A$AP is representing ex-president Kennedy (JFK) and Lana the first Lady, more leaning toward the young sexy and scandalous version of JFK’s wife. I loved the scenes in the music video because they basically just showed the relationship between Lana and A$AP, all happy and in love, giving you a background on how much he meant to her. There was a little speech in the music video that wasnt in the song that was during the scene of the assignation which wasn’t shown directly in the video but you were very clear on what was happening in the video if you were familiar about the news and videos on the assignation of JFK. Lana basically replayed the scene of what JFK’s wife did while she was in the car while he got shot in the head, but during that whole scene Lana says,

“And I remember when I met him, it was so clear that he was the only one for me. We both knew it, right away. And as the years went on, things got more difficult – we were faced with more challenges. I begged him to stay. Try to remember what we had at the beginning.
He was charismatic, magnetic, electric and everybody knew it. When he walked in every woman’s head turned, everyone stood up to talk to him. He was like this hybrid, this mix of a man who couldn’t contain himself. I always got the sense that he became torn between being a good person and missing out on all of the opportunities that life could offer a man as magnificent as him. And in that way, I understood him and I loved him.

And I still love him. I love him.”

which was a brilliant way on tying up the scene perfect and it added depth into the video and song itself. I love the song, the video, the quote. Lana is queen.
